Chennai Pilot Project Aims to Boost Water Reuse and Groundwater Recharge
A pilot project focusing on wastewater reuse and groundwater recharge is set to be inaugurated in Chennai as part of the City of 1000 Tanks initiative, spearheaded by a consortium led by Netherlands-based Ooze Architects and Urbanists. The project, located at Little Flower Convent in Chennai, aims to demonstrate water resilience and combat climate-related challenges.
It utilizes an advanced septic tank and constructed wetlands with canna plants for greywater treatment, alongside rainwater harvesting to recharge groundwater. The collaborative effort involves organizations like Madras Terrace, IIT Madras, Care Earth Trust, and more, and seeks to address Chennai’s water security concerns through innovative nature-based solutions.
