Chennai Metro’s Innovative Transit Development: Trains Passing Through 12-Storey Building at Thirumangalam

In a unique move as part of the Chennai Metro Rail’s phase II project, trains are set to pass through a 12-storey building at Thirumangalam, resembling a concept seen in China. The trains will run at an elevation of approximately 15 meters from the ground, with the tracks likely positioned on the building’s fourth floor. This groundbreaking initiative aims to enhance transit-oriented development, offering commuters easy access from various floors to reach the platform and board the train.

The towering building will span 400 meters, providing an exclusive floor where passengers can efficiently purchase tickets and embark on their journey. Nearly 90% of the land acquisition for the building has been completed, emphasizing the innovative approach to mobility and transit planning in the city’s expanding metro network.

Thirumangalam station, part of corridor 5 in the phase II project, connects Madhavaram to Sholinganallur, showcasing Chennai Metro’s commitment to futuristic and integrated urban transportation solutions.
