Chennai Metro Rail Extends Phase II Project with Two New Lines
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has submitted detailed feasibility reports for two extensions of its Phase II project to the State government. The first extension is from Koyambedu to Avadi via Thirumangalam and Mogappair, an extension of Phase II’s Corridor 5, recommended to be an elevated Metro Rail system with 15 elevated stations at an estimated cost of ₹6,376.18 crore.
The second extension is from Siruseri to Kilambakkam Bus Terminus via Kelambakkam, extending Phase II’s Corridor 3. This 23.5 km stretch with 12 elevated stations is estimated to cost ₹5,458.06 crore, with dedicated or improved bus services recommended due to lower projected ridership. Both extensions offer potential for further expansion based on future developments.
