Chennai Mayor Launches Civic Engagement Initiative for Direct Resident Interaction

Chennai Mayor R. Priya has initiated a city-wide drive to address civic issues by directly engaging with residents in every ward. Local body representatives and Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) officials have been instructed to visit each street, hear grievances, and take necessary action for issue resolution. The campaign, launched in ward 70 of Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar, saw participation from CMDA and HR&CE Minister P.K. Sekarbabu. During visits to streets like Mayilappa Street and Bangaru Street, residents raised concerns including the need for elevated pillar boxes and better street signage.

Additionally, demands for improved anganwadi facilities and stronger canal walls were highlighted. Addressing the 35% professional tax hike, the Mayor explained that it aligns with Central government guidelines while Chennai offers superior civic services compared to states like Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Road restoration efforts will also commence post-Northeast monsoon, focusing on 3,000 identified damaged stretches out of 5,000 affected.
