Chennai Councillors Demand Transparency on Illegal Hoardings

Councillors of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), led by Deputy Mayor M. Magesh Kumar, are calling for detailed information on court cases and locations of illegal hoardings across the city. Despite claims of court orders permitting certain hoardings, a senior GCC official confirmed there are currently no pending cases, and a new licensing process will commence soon.

The civic body, having removed 800 illegal hoardings since January, initiated an audit of scaffolding stability following a fatal collapse in Mumbai. Councillors emphasize the need for transparent communication of hoarding permissions to ensure public safety and regulatory compliance. The GCC aims to streamline the licensing and removal process, ensuring only authorized hoardings remain.
