Chennai Corporation’s Integrated Command and Control Centre Efficiently Handles Waterlogging Issues

On July 24, 2023, the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) at Ripon Building, Chennai Corporation’s headquarters, demonstrated its effectiveness by receiving instant notifications of waterlogging in the city. The center promptly addressed the issue of water stagnation in three subways – Jones Road Subway, Ganesapuram Subway, and Manickam Nagar Subway – within 1.5 hours of receiving the information through visuals and data.

Hourly updates are diligently collected from all 15 zones of the city, aiding in the swift resolution of civic issues arising from rainfall. Despite heavy showers on Monday evening and night, no area experienced severe inundation. All three regional deputy commissioners (north, south, and central) reported no major complaints when contacted, highlighting the successful functioning of the ICCC in tackling waterlogging problems in Chennai.
