Chennai Corporation’s Initiative for Large Bio-CNG Plants to Promote Circular Economy
Chennai Corporation is set to introduce large bio-CNG plants, creating a circular economy by utilizing biodegradable waste and supplying energy back to waste generators. The corporation aims to reduce carbon emissions from fossil fuels through this innovative approach. An expert committee is scheduled to meet this week to review the draft Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) of the bio-CNG plants, including a 500-tonne capacity plant in Perungudi.
Once launched, these plants are expected to enhance waste processing in the city and provide bio-CNG to automobile gas stations. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s focus on achieving net-zero emissions and encourages stronger innovations from local bodies and citizens.
