Chennai Corporation to Impose Fines for Open Dumping in Waterbodies and Canals
The Greater Chennai Corporation has announced its intention to monitor and impose fines on individuals engaging in open dumping of mixed waste into waterbodies, micro, and major canals. The civic body aims to crack down on violators and clear waste from vacant lands owned by private entities.
Chennai Corporation Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan emphasized the need for responsible waste management, urging citizens to use designated garbage bins for proper disposal. Over the past 18 days, more than 20,000 sanitation workers have been actively involved in clearing 1.25 lakh tonnes of waste, addressing the aftermath of heavy rains and promoting cleanliness in the region.
