Chennai Corporation to Establish Vending Zones and Ensure Orderly Street Vending
On Tuesday, the Chennai Corporation will finalize the designation of at least 776 vending zones across 15 city zones, while also declaring 493 streets as non-vending areas. This decision follows the fourth meeting of the town vending committee, which aims to regulate street vending under the Street Vendors Act, ensuring affordability without causing traffic congestion.
Royapuram and Adyar zones are expected to see the highest number of vending zones, with 162 and 109 streets respectively. Additionally, 297 more streets may be recommended for vending, particularly in areas like Kodambakkam and T. Nagar. The initiative also includes the removal of vendors from non-vending zones and emphasizes proper training for vendors to maintain public health standards.
