The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is set to conduct inundation charting to identify areas where roads become slushy during rains, a problem exacerbated by ongoing infrastructure projects. According to 2023 estimates, over 320 localized blocks experiencing inundation have been reported. GCC Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan emphasized the need to address drain blockages and clogged storm-water drains, particularly in areas undergoing development by various government and private agencies.
The civic body will focus on major bus routes and other affected zones, compiling a comprehensive list to manage and rectify these issues. Additionally, ongoing and proposed projects will be reviewed for their impact on road conditions, ensuring better management and public safety during monsoon seasons.
