Chennai Corporation to Address Data Inconsistencies for Sustainable Development Goals
The Greater Chennai Corporation is set to rectify inconsistencies in data pertaining to various civic aspects as part of its efforts toward achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The government has highlighted gaps and disparities in data provided by local bodies, including Chennai Corporation, since 2016 regarding the progress made in implementing SDGs and State Indicators Framework (SIF) targets.
The State has established 314 indicators in the SIF, encompassing areas like malaria incidence, infant mortality rate, access to drinking water in schools, enrollment ratios, women’s representation in local self-government, slum services, waste collection, source segregation, and green parks.
The Department of Economics and Statistics has directed all local bodies to resolve data inconsistencies, with Chennai Corporation focusing on health, education, recreation, women’s safety, waste management, and sanitation.
