The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has launched a campaign to remove abandoned vehicles that obstruct pedestrian and traffic flow on city roads. Out of 1,308 such identified vehicles, 260 have already been successfully towed away, addressing concerns of public inconvenience. On Friday, the operation targeted areas near Udhayam Theatre in Ashok Nagar, where authorities removed two vehicles, including a car and an autorickshaw.
This initiative also serves to prevent potential mosquito breeding grounds due to rainwater accumulation in these vehicles. Additionally, the GCC conducted a debris removal operation on October 13, clearing 20 tonnes of debris in areas surrounding the theatre, following special health camps for dengue prevention at Koyambedu market.
