Chennai Corporation Seeks Funds for Postponed Formula 4 Night Street Race Infrastructure

In a strategic move to secure additional funding, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has proposed a request for ₹8.25 crore from the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) to ratify expenditures on roadworks designated for the “Chennai Formula Racing Circuit.” The circuit, set to host a Formula 4 night street race, saw its event postponed due to Cyclone Michaung’s heavy rains.

Concurrently, the GCC seeks ₹15.65 crore to finalize contractor payments for extensive enhancements on key thoroughfares such as Flag Staff Road and Anna Salai. These enhancements included advanced profile correction, bitumen overlaying, and precise utility adjustments to meet racing standards. The proposal follows a Council resolution and previous correspondence emphasizing the urgency of fund allocation to settle and validate these critical infrastructure upgrades.
