Chennai Corporation Resumes Cement Road Construction in Heavy Vehicle Traffic Areas

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced its plan to resume the construction of cement roads in residential areas that experience significant traffic from heavy transport vehicles. These areas, situated near dump yards, garbage transfer stations, and major factories, will benefit from the new initiative aimed at improving road durability.

Additionally, the GCC will focus on repairing damaged stretches near important establishments such as schools, colleges, and hospitals. This decision follows a precedent set a few years ago when the Corporation successfully laid cement roads in flood-prone zones like Velachery, including a 700-meter stretch on Velachery Main Road.

Presently, a 710-meter segment of the Corporation Road in the Perungudi zone has been earmarked for the construction of a cement road, with work commencing this week and an expected completion timeframe of six months. This move comes in response to resident protests regarding the deteriorating condition of roads in the area.
