Chennai Corporation Plans to Increase Parking Slots After Clearing Abandoned Vehicles
The Greater Chennai Corporation is set to expand its parking management system and increase parking spaces along major roads in the city’s 200 wards following the removal of abandoned vehicles. The move aims to increase the number of parking slots, which currently stands at 5,300, by identifying new spaces along commercial areas in October.
The civic body had faced challenges due to a lack of coordination between the Engineering Department and the Revenue Department, delaying the compilation of a comprehensive list of street parking spaces. Mayor R. Priya and Corporation Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan reviewed the progress of parking management initiatives, including the removal of abandoned vehicles, during a recent meeting.
The Corporation has identified 200 additional parking slots so far and plans to delineate more parking spaces along major roads in commercial areas to boost revenue.
