Chennai Corporation Faces the Challenge of Restoring Bad Interior Roads
The Chennai Corporation is confronted with the significant task of restoring interior roads in several southern suburbs brought under its jurisdiction. Residents of areas such as Manapakkam, Madipakkam, Mugalivakkam, Pallikaranai, and Jalladampet were initially hopeful for improved amenities when their localities came under the Chennai Corporation.
However, multiple roads have been dug up to facilitate infrastructure projects, causing severe inconvenience to the residents. Projects involving Metrowater for pipeline installation and stormwater drain construction are occurring simultaneously, leaving the roads in disrepair. While the underground drainage and stormwater drain are crucial amenities, residents lament the timing of these projects, rendering arterial roads impassable and interior roads in a state of disarray.
The situation is exacerbated by ongoing Metro Rail work, compounding commuting difficulties for many residents. Road restoration is now a pressing concern for the Chennai Corporation.
