Chennai Corporation Allocates ₹150 Crore for Re-laying Damaged Roads

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced its plan to re-lay damaged roads in the city using additional funding of ₹150 crore from the State Finance Commission. Speaking at the Corporation’s Council meeting, Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan stated that tenders for the road re-laying project will be floated next month. The initiative aims to address the issue of damaged roads caused by various factors, including road cuts for providing essential services like water supply and power supply to residents and commercial establishments.

Coordination between different agencies has improved, with Metrowater officials specifically tasked to resolve issues raised by councilors during the meeting. Councilors from various wards in the city expressed their concerns about traffic issues arising from road cuts and urged the civic body to find solutions to mitigate the impact. In response to the demand, the Corporation has already taken the initiative to identify damaged roads and will finalize tenders for these stretches within a week.

Additionally, the Corporation has directed its officials to regulate road cuts to prevent damage to bus routes and interior roads, thus ensuring smoother transportation within the city. To streamline the process, the civic body will introduce online permission for road cuts, further enhancing the efficiency and transparency in managing road infrastructure projects.
