Chennai-Bengaluru Highway Widening Project Back on Track
After prolonged delays, the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway (NH 48) widening project is finally set to resume with a new contractor. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed an agreement with P and C Projects Pvt. Ltd. to complete the pending work on a 16.82 km stretch from Sriperumbudur to Karaipettai for approximately ₹360 crore.
The contract includes the construction of six structures, including two flyovers, and the completion of approach ramps for 17 pedestrian subways. Work is expected to begin in February, aiming for completion within 21 months. This progress follows the foreclosure of the previous contract due to non-completion of the project. Meanwhile, the Karaipettai to Walajahpet stretch has seen 85% completion, signaling positive momentum. The project is critical to easing congestion and improving connectivity on this major national highway.
