Chennai’s T3 terminal at the airport is set to be demolished next month to make way for the remaining portion of the new integrated terminal as part of a modernization project worth ₹2,467 crore. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) announced that the contractor for the project has already started dismantling electrical equipment from the T3 building.
Demolition work is expected to continue for 2-3 months, with construction of the new integrated terminal’s next phase slated to begin early next year. The entire project is set to be completed by 2025 and will significantly increase Chennai Airport’s capacity from 17 million passengers annually to 35 million. The first part of the new integrated terminal was inaugurated in April.
