Starting from October, Chennai Airport will operate two domestic terminals simultaneously for the first time. One group of airlines will use Terminal 1 (T1), while another will function from Terminal 4 (T4). Airlines like Akasa, IndiGo, and SpiceJet plan to operate flights from T4, while Air India, Vistara, and AirAsia will relocate to T1.
This shift comes as part of the airport’s phase II modernization project, which cost ₹2,467 crore and involved the demolition of old domestic and international terminal buildings to make way for an integrated terminal. The combined operation of T1 and T4 will manage domestic flight operations from October, but passengers are calling for clear guidance and signage to avoid confusion, especially among first-time flyers.
