Chennai Airport to Introduce Two Domestic Terminals in October
Chennai Airport is set to ease congestion and streamline passenger flow during peak hours by introducing two domestic terminals in October. With international flight operations now shifted to the new integrated terminal (T2), the old international terminal (T4) will be converted into the second domestic terminal. This expansion is aimed at reducing queues and crowding, especially during busy early morning hours.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is currently working on modifying T4, which is expected to be completed in a couple of weeks. The terminal will undergo alterations such as the removal of immigration counters and the relocation of three conveyor belts, followed by extensive cleaning before its reopening. This move is expected to significantly increase the airport’s capacity to handle more passengers alongside the existing domestic terminal (T1).
