Chennai Airport Embarks on Artistic Transformation with Pillar Murals

In a bid to enhance the aesthetic appeal of Chennai airport, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has initiated a project to adorn the 72 pillars outside the terminals with vibrant murals. Reflecting the rich art and architecture of the state, these murals will showcase intricate designs inspired by temple pillars, featuring elements such as peacocks and horses.

The project, part of the ongoing phase II modernization effort, aims to create a visually engaging environment for air travelers. With careful selection of colors and themes, the painting work, costing approximately ₹2 crore, is expected to be completed within three months. Additionally, AAI is also working on revitalizing vacant spaces around the terminals, conceptualizing amenities like selfie points, seating areas, and food outlets, with plans to unveil a mini plaza by the year’s end.
