Chembarambakkam Reservoir Restoration Set to Begin After Cyclone Damage
The Water Resources Department (WRD) will commence restoration work on the Chembarambakkam reservoir, heavily damaged during Cyclone Michaung last year, in about a month. The project, with a budget of ₹22.95 crore, aims to strengthen the infrastructure of this crucial water source for Chennai. Planned improvements include replacing the stone pitching with concrete on the bund slope, repairing floodgates, and upgrading inlet channels and parapet walls.
Additionally, desilting the New Bangaru channel and Sriperumbudur tank channels, along with constructing a 400-meter flood protection wall, will help mitigate flooding impacts on nearby villages.
