Challenges Faced by Ayodhya’s Hospitality Sector Amid Pilgrim Influx
Ayodhya’s hospitality sector is grappling with challenges as it struggles to accommodate the surge in demand from pilgrims visiting the city, particularly after the consecration ceremony at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. Instances of overcharging by local guides and hotel staff have been reported, leaving visitors feeling exploited. While the city’s infrastructure and tourism ecosystem are striving to keep pace with the influx of devotees, outsiders often face difficulties due to lack of awareness and opportunistic behavior by a few locals.
Despite efforts by the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Trust to clarify the absence of paid special darshan arrangements, scams continue to be reported. Moreover, the lack of awareness about government initiatives like the Holy Ayodhya app, which offers affordable homestay options, exacerbates the situation, leading tourists to rely on agents who charge exorbitant fees. Although the hospitality industry is gradually evolving, with numerous hotel projects underway, there is a pressing need for government intervention to ensure the sector’s sustainable growth and provide visitors with quality, affordable accommodation options.
