Centre Urges Employers to Grant Maternity Leave and Digital Wages to Construction Workers

The Indian government has issued advisories urging employers in the construction sector to ensure digital payment of wages and provide 26 weeks of paid maternity leave to women workers. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs issued the advisories, emphasizing the need for equal opportunities and participation of women in the workforce.

The advisories cover various aspects, including maternity benefits, miscarriage leave, and facilities for migrant women workers, such as crèches, accommodation, and hygiene facilities. The move aims to promote gender equality and encourage women’s active participation in the construction industry.
