Celebrating 75 Years of India’s Resilient Constitution
Marking the 75th year of the Indian Constitution, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman lauded its enduring strength and adaptability during a Rajya Sabha discussion. Paying tribute to the 389 members of the Constituent Assembly, including 15 women, she highlighted their remarkable effort in framing the Constitution under challenging circumstances.
Sitharaman emphasized India’s unique democratic journey, noting how the Constitution has remained robust, evolving through amendments without losing its foundational essence. She contrasted India’s achievement with other nations that gained independence post-World War II but replaced their constitutions entirely. The Rajya Sabha pledged an inclusive and extended debate to reaffirm its commitment to the ideals enshrined in the Constitution.
