CCB arrested 2 for cheating ₹71 lakhs over forged property buyer’s patta documents
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Chennai arrested a couple for allegedly cheating a property buyer of ₹71 lakhs by providing forged Patta documents. The victim, named Lakshmanan, was searching for a property when a real estate broker showed him a property in Velachery comprising five houses for sale.
After negotiations, they settled on a price of ₹2.10 crore, and Lakshmanan paid ₹71 lakhs as an advance and entered into a sale agreement. However, when he verified the patta, he discovered that it was not in the name of the house owners and that only 1,506 square feet of the property had a valid patta, not the entire 2,400 square feet area as claimed. The couple has been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
