The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in its investigation of the multi-crore cash-for-school job case in West Bengal, has approached a Kolkata court to request permission for confidential depositions from four ineligible teachers who secured jobs by paying money. These teachers are currently employed in state-run schools in the state.
Once granted permission, the CBI plans to record confidential statements regarding the process through which these individuals paid cash to secure their jobs, the recipients of the money, the middlemen involved, and the communication methods used.
The CBI arrested four such teachers in August as part of its crackdown on the “supply side” of corruption in the case, emphasizing that those paying cash are equally culpable as those receiving it and should receive equal punishment, as per the judge’s observation.
