Former CBI Director R.K. Raghavan stressed the importance of government officials acquiring knowledge about artificial intelligence (AI) to stay relevant in the evolving landscape. Speaking at a special talk in Chennai on “Artificial intelligence – The Myths and Realities,” organized by The Triplicane Cultural Academy, Raghavan emphasized that officials must not allow AI to replace them and should retain control over decision-making processes.
He noted that AI provides guidelines for decision-making but is not infallible, and machines can make mistakes. IT Consultant M. Krishnamoorthy added that while AI is growing, there is a need for out-of-the-box thinking using this technology.
Krishnamoorthy highlighted the potential for bias in outcomes due to data availability and algorithmic choices, noting the benefits of standardization, automation, and lifestyle changes. The session, moderated by retired IPS officer P. Kandaswamy, underscored the significance of government officials adapting to the advancements in AI for effective decision-making.
