CBI Conducts Raids in West Bengal in Connection with Coal Smuggling Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) carried out raids and search operations at multiple locations in West Bengal, including Kolkata, in connection with the coal smuggling case. The simultaneous operations took place in places like Bhawanipur in South Kolkata, Durgapur, Kulti in West Burdwan district, and Malda, among others.
The raids included the residences of two retired Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, where the CBI identified significant assets disproportionate to their income. The individuals targeted in the operation are believed to have close associations with Anup Maji, also known as Lala, a prime accused in the multi-crore coal smuggling case in the state.
The CBI has been investigating the nexus between coal smuggling kingpins and certain CISF and Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) officials, suspecting their involvement in facilitating the large-scale scam.
