CBI Chargesheet in ISRO Espionage Case: Pursuing Justice for Nambi Narayanan
The CBI has taken a significant step towards justice by filing a chargesheet against five former police officials, including two former DGPs, in the infamous 1994 ISRO espionage case. This development follows a Supreme Court directive based on findings that indicated police misconduct in framing space scientist Nambi Narayanan.
Charged under various sections of the IPC including criminal conspiracy and fabricating evidence, the officials were part of the original investigation team that falsely implicated Narayanan and others. The case, initially triggered by allegations involving secret ISRO documents and a Maldivian national, had tarnished Narayanan’s reputation and led to his wrongful arrest. The CBI’s action underscores a long-awaited reckoning in a saga that has highlighted grave miscarriages of justice and the impact of wrongful accusations on individuals’ lives and careers.
