Cashew Farmers Demand Minimum Support Price (MSP) Assurance
Ahead of the upcoming elections, cashew farmers in Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, are demanding a concrete assurance from political parties regarding the announcement of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for cashew nuts. With over 50,000 cashew farmers in the Uddanam region dissatisfied with the current prices, they insist on an MSP of ₹16,000 for 80 kgs of cashew nut bags, a significant increase from the current market rates.
The lack of MSP has led to discontent among farmers, who spend approximately ₹15,000 per crop, only to face low returns. Teppala Ajay Kumar, the State president of the Andhra Pradesh Cashew Farmers Association, emphasized the need for political parties to address this issue and provide concrete assurances to farmers ahead of the polls.
