BJP Secures Deputy Mayor and Senior Deputy Mayor Posts in Chandigarh Repolls

In the repolls held for the Deputy Mayor and Senior Deputy Mayor positions in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, BJP candidates emerged victorious. Rajinder Sharma clinched the Deputy Mayor post by defeating the AAP-Congress alliance with 19 votes, while Kuljeet Singh Sandhu secured the Senior Deputy Mayor position with 19 votes as well.

Congress’ Gurpreet Gabi managed to gather 16 votes, with one vote declared invalid. The BJP’s strengthened position, bolstered by recent defections, played a significant role in securing these victories. The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the previous mayoral election results paved the way for these repolls, with AAP Councillor Kumar overseeing the election process. The AAP and Congress had boycotted the earlier election due to allegations of ballot tampering, resulting in Sandhu and Sharma’s uncontested wins.
