Late on Sunday night, all 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano case surrendered at Godhra sub-jail in Gujarat’s Panchmahal district, complying with the deadline set by the Supreme Court.
The apex court, on January 8, had nullified the remission granted to the convicts by the Gujarat government and criticized the State for being “complicit” with the accused. The convicts, released prematurely on Independence Day in 2022, were ordered to return to jail within two weeks. Despite their pleas for more time being rejected, the convicts, including Bakabhai Vohania and Mitesh Bhatt, surrendered within the stipulated period.
