Experts in Bengaluru have raised concerns over the increasing incidence of heart attacks among young adults, attributing it to a combination of factors such as a sedentary lifestyle, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, COVID-19-related complications, family history, stress, and alcohol abuse. According to the Bangalore Premature Coronary Artery Disease (PCAD) registry, more than 2,500 cases of heart attacks have been recorded among patients under 40 years old in the past two years, with 1,250 fresh cases reported among those under 35 years old.
To mitigate these risks, experts emphasize the importance of lifestyle changes, including regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, eating a nutritious diet, stress management, quitting smoking, and undergoing regular cardiac check-ups, particularly if there’s a family history of heart disease.
