Bapatla Police Bust ₹74 Lakh Cyber Fraud, Arrest Two from Rajasthan

The Bapatla district police successfully cracked a ₹74 lakh cyber fraud case linked to a fake ‘digital arrest’ scheme, leading to the arrest of two suspects from Rajasthan. Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi revealed that the investigation exposed a larger nationwide cyber fraud network involving over ₹10 crore across 43 cases in 18 States. The fraudsters, posing as police officials, threatened retired professor G. S. L. Varaprasad Rao with fabricated money laundering charges, coercing him to transfer ₹74.13 lakh to multiple fraudulent accounts.

The police froze ₹17.90 lakh during their investigation and seized ₹7 lakh in cash, 24 ATM cards, 11 chequebooks, and four mobile phones. The arrested suspects, B. Ramesh and Shrawan Kumar, were linked to 13 other cybercrime cases totaling ₹50 lakh in eight States. SP Dudi warned the public against falling victim to such scams and encouraged reporting cybercrimes through the helpline 1930. He commended the district police and IT core team for their swift action in solving the case.
