Banker Donates Land for School Development, to be Honored on Republic Day
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will honor 52-year-old banker Aayi Ammal, also known as Pooranam, during Republic Day celebrations for her remarkable contribution to education. Pooranam donated over one acre of land worth around Rs 7 crore to the Panchayat Union Middle School in Kodikkulam, Madurai, to elevate the school to a high school.
The generous donation is made in memory of her late daughter, U. Janani, a social worker who was dedicated to the educational upliftment of underprivileged children. Pooranam’s request from the government is to name the upgraded school after her daughter.
Chief Minister Stalin commended Pooranam’s commitment to education, emphasizing its transformative power, and announced her special award on Republic Day. Pooranam believes that education is a powerful tool for societal change, and the upgraded school will enhance educational opportunities for rural children.
