Avadi City Police Crack Down on Illegal Tobacco Sales in Massive Raid
Avadi City Police, led by Commissioner K. Shankar, carried out an extensive raid targeting the illegal sale of banned tobacco products, such as gutkha and mava. The operation involved over 150 police personnel and officers from the Food Safety Department. The simultaneous raid spanned across locations including Ambattur, Sevvapet, Vellavedu, Poonamallee, Redhills, Ennore, Manali, Porur, and Thiruverkadu.
In total, 146 suspect shops were targeted, resulting in the discovery of banned tobacco products in 23 outlets. Food Safety Officers sealed these establishments, and a fine of ₹1.07 lakh was imposed on violators.
The seized contraband weighed 113 kg. Commissioner Shankar emphasized that similar surprise raids will be conducted regularly to curb the illegal sale of banned tobacco products, reinforcing the authorities’ commitment to public health and safety.
