Automated Name Transfers Streamline Land Ownership in Tamil Nadu

The Revenue Department in Tamil Nadu has achieved a significant milestone with the launch of its new portal for applying name transfers for pattas without the need to visit common service centers. Since its inauguration by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on September 23 last year, the portal has efficiently issued nearly 4 lakh pattas to beneficiaries.

The process for automatic name transfer in registered pattas involves verifying if the seller is the patta holder and if the full field or plot being sold matches the documented extent in land records. If the conditions are met, the registration case is marked for automatic mutation, simplifying the transfer of ownership.

The Department has successfully informed and sensitized the Sub Registrar’s Offices about this streamlined procedure, ensuring its implementation. Normally, name transfers of pattas for registered documents should be completed within 15 days, making the new portal a boon for citizens seeking quick and hassle-free land ownership transfers.
