Australia Works to Evacuate Stranded Citizens from Gaza
The Australian government is working to secure evacuations for 67 Australians stranded in Gaza. Tim Watts, assistant minister for foreign affairs, stated that Australian diplomats and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) officials are pressing for safe passage for these Australians.
A group of 25 Australian citizens, permanent residents, and their family members were evacuated from Gaza into Egypt through the Rafah crossing earlier, but there have been no further crossings for Australians since Thursday. DFAT officials are working to arrange free commercial flights for the evacuees back to Australia. The Australian government has also called for a pause in Israeli airstrikes to allow humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.
