Asst professor arrested for sexually assaulting students in Assam
In Assam North Lakhimpur College, assistant professor Dr. Hemanta Sarmah has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting female students within the classroom premises while in an intoxicated state. Dr. Sarmah, who teaches Assamese subjects, faced complaints from a total of 58 college students who claimed that he was teaching while intoxicated on two occasions last week.
The college principal, Dr. Biman Chetia, received written complaints from the students and filed a report with the Lakhimpur Police Station, leading to Sarmah’s arrest on Sunday. The case has raised serious concerns about the safety and conduct of educators and highlights the need for ensuring a safe learning environment for students.
