Assam Floods: Grim Situation Persists as Death Toll Rises
The flood situation in Assam remains dire as the death toll rises to 18, with three additional fatalities reported. Although the number of affected people has slightly decreased, over 5,35,000 individuals across 13 districts continue to grapple with the aftermath of the floods. Rivers like Kopili, Barak, and Kushiyara remain swollen, posing ongoing threats.
Nagaon emerges as the worst-hit district, with over 3,00,000 people affected, followed by Cachar and Hojai. Relief efforts are underway, with thousands seeking refuge in relief camps and distribution centers operational across the region. Infrastructure damage, including to roads and bridges, adds to the challenges faced by authorities in addressing the crisis.
