Assam Evacuates 160 Students Stranded in Flood-Affected Sikkim
At least 160 students from Assam who were stranded in the flood-ravaged Sikkim have been successfully evacuated and have returned to the state, according to officials. The evacuation was carried out using six buses from the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC), transporting the students back to Guwahati on Sunday night.
The majority of the students evacuated were studying at Sikkim Manipal University. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had dispatched state government representatives to supervise the safe evacuation of the stranded students, with around 160 students initially reported as being stranded in Sikkim’s Rongpo and Majitar regions.
