Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that at least 390 individuals have been arrested in the state over the past two and a half years for their alleged involvement in anti-national or extremist activities. The arrests span various districts, with 52 individuals detained in Kokrajhar, 43 in Udalguri, 40 in Dima Hasao, 38 in Barpeta, 30 in Tinsukia, and 29 in Baksa.
Additionally, during the same period, 2,942 arrests were made in cattle smuggling cases, while 434 individuals were detained in women trafficking cases. The state also saw the arrest of 11,624 individuals in connection with drug smuggling, with narcotics valued at Rs 2,817.85 crore ($377 million) seized. Moreover, 27,858 cattle heads were rescued and seized from traffickers.
Specific districts, including Nagaon, Guwahati, Kokrajhar, South Salmara, Dhubri, Kamrup, Golaghat, Sonitpur, and Biswanath, reported arrests in cattle smuggling cases, totaling 486, 287, 241, 235, 234, 192, 157, 135, and 101 individuals, respectively.
