Ashish Chauhan and Sridhar Vembu Appointed as UGC Members
The Indian government recently appointed Ashish Kumar Chauhan, CEO and managing director of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), and Sridhar Vembu, founder of Zoho Corporation, as members of the University Grants Commission (UGC), augmenting the body’s strength from four to eight members.
Alongside Chauhan and Vembu, Sachidananda Mohanty, former vice chancellor of the Central University of Odisha, and Shashikala Gulabrao Wanjari, serving vice chancellor of the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, were also appointed to the Commission. These appointments, with a tenure of three years, aim to enrich the UGC with diverse expertise and perspectives to enhance its role as India’s higher education regulator.
