Arvind Kejriwal Challenges Arrest and Custody in Delhi High Court

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of Delhi has moved the Delhi High Court to challenge his recent arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with an alleged corruption case linked to the scrapped excise policy. Kejriwal’s appeal also contests a trial court’s decision on June 26 to remand him into three-day CBI custody, followed by judicial custody until July 12.

The CBI justified its custody plea citing the need for further investigation and ensuring justice, alleging Kejriwal’s lack of cooperation during interrogation. Kejriwal’s legal representatives argued against the judicial remand, highlighting that the excise policy case dates back to 2022, with Kejriwal’s arrest occurring only in March 2024. They noted that Kejriwal had received interim bail from the Supreme Court earlier to campaign during general elections, emphasizing procedural nuances in the case.
