Arrest of Fraudulent Couple Exposes Prank Payment App Scam

The Byadarahalli police apprehended a couple for orchestrating a scam wherein they duped jewellery stores using a counterfeit payment application. Nandan, 40, and his partner Kalpitha devised a scheme wherein they purchased 36 grams of gold worth ₹1.6 lakh from Parmesh Jewelers at Gollarahatti using a fake online payment app.

After the transaction, the shop owner realized the deception and filed a complaint, prompting a thorough investigation by the police. By analyzing CCTV footage from numerous cameras near the shop, law enforcement identified the accused, leading to their arrest. The duo, identified as habitual offenders, had reportedly engaged in similar fraudulent activities across the city, marking their first arrest despite committing multiple thefts over the past year.
