Anticipated Tariff Restructuring for Power Consumers in Andhra Pradesh

Power consumers in Andhra Pradesh are set to await the restructuring of tariffs until the next fiscal year, beginning April 1, 2025, pending approval by the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC). Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu highlighted concerns over tariff burdens imposed during the previous administration, emphasizing a need for reforms to alleviate consumer costs.

The proposed restructuring aims to address recurrent hikes, true-up charges, and Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPCA) fees, which collectively burdened consumers by ₹32,166 crore over five years. The restructuring plans, to be presented in November, will seek to mitigate these impacts, aiming for fairer rates across various consumer segments. Naidu assured that despite financial challenges, the state remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted, quality power supply while easing consumer burdens through effective policy adjustments.
