Annual Kashmiri Pandit Yatra to Sacred Gangabal Lake Commences

In a cherished tradition, the annual Kashmiri Pandit Yatra to Gangabal Lake from Naranag temple ruins began in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. Gangabal Lake, nestled at the base of the Harmukh mountain peak, holds great religious significance for local Kashmiri Pandits. For generations, they have journeyed to this sacred site to immerse the ashes of their departed loved ones, earning it the name ‘Poor Man’s journey to the Sacred Ganga.’

The pilgrimage involves a challenging 36 km uphill trek from Naranag temple ruins and reaches an altitude of 14,500 feet. Approximately 70 Kashmiri Pandits from various parts of the country embarked on this spiritual journey, reaffirming their roots and traditions. The pilgrimage, organized by the Harmukh Ganga (Gangabal) Trust and the All Parties Migrants’ Coordination Committee, is conducted under the protection of local authorities to ensure its smooth progress.
