Andhra Pradesh to Begin Functioning as Executive Capital from Visakhapatnam

Andhra Pradesh’s executive capital will commence operations from Visakhapatnam during the Dasara festival, with Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s official residence also shifting there. The decision was communicated during a Cabinet meeting. Initially, the Chief Minister’s office will start functioning from Visakhapatnam on Vijaya Dasmi.

Committees of officials will be formed to identify buildings for relocating various government departments and oversee the transfer of offices from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam. The move comes after previous plans to develop three state capitals faced protests and legal challenges, with the Andhra Pradesh High Court directing the development of Amaravati as the state capital. However, the state government appealed to the Supreme Court, which upheld the High Court’s order.
